Final solution will act as deterrent for future risk takers
Ask any American what (s)he values most and no it’s not political correctness but freedom. A long time ago any individual that did not have the talent or perseverance to make it in the old, feudal Europe (as the old Donald Rumsfeld would have it) fled to the New World to start a new and lonely life. Because these impoverished adventurers did not know any better than to treat the original population of the New World the same way they were treated themselves in Europe they were soon able to claim ownership of their newfound lebensraum.
The message of the New World, a promise of freedom and space for everyone, spread quickly and many paupers from the old world followed to populate former Indian land. An exponentially growing population needed some rules established on paper to guarantee that their newly acquired freedom would not restrict anybody else’s freedom. In 1786 a few wise wigheads decided that happiness was the most highly regarded thing anyone could achieve in one’s born again life in this infantile Empire. And so the idea of the Pursuit of Happpiness was perpetuated, on paper at least.
No sooner dit John put his Hancock on a piece of parchment (the draft was made of hemp believe it or not) than the Pursuit of Happiness became the Pursuit of Capital. Because the new inhabitants of the “Free World” were so drunk with the idea that money equals freedom they happily coooperated with anyone offering them a chance at ultimate freedom. Apparently anyone and everyone could cotton spin themselves to fortune and thus eternal freedom and so began the new slavery also known as Capitalism.
Most of you probably still think capitalism means free markets, cheap goods, freedom of speech and much more cheap and free stuff. In actuality capitalism is mechanized Darwinism; a happy few at the top and the rest fights for survival. The current depression and the credit crisis are phenomena that speak for themselves in terms of what capitalism does to society. Capitalism is a much too powerful a force to just disappear after one credit crisis and there is no way to bring it to a halt. A society can however regulate and mitigate the devastating effects of the wrecking ball that is capitalism.
Americans firmly believe in the death penalty, so much so that the electric chair is (almost) a cultural icon of the United States. The ultimate penalty, until now at least, is only used for those accused of directly taking the life of another human being. However, under these new circumstances new measures should be taken. Not only should the ultimate punishment, the death penalty, be used as a measure of reciprocation but also to prevent future instances of financial mismanagement and selfish enrichment. Capital punishment would be justified in cases like these because of their deep reaching impact on society. The consequences of the irresponsible behaviour of a handful of bankers and managers go further than temporary unemployment, interrupted careers and a decrease in the volume of sales, they represent the destruction of a society many worked so hard to build.
The men that reside at the top of the corperate pyramid are the ones “blessed” with executive power. We entrust them with our own values and feelings of ultimate responsibility to do their best to guard the progress and integrity of our companies and corporations that, for a large part bring the much needed capital to society. Because of their executive power and the magnitude of the employment power their businesses have it also means that much of the responsibility for the current economic crisis resides with them. Only they could have prevented the downward spiral all of us are now unwillingly part of.
In a world where everything revolves around money there is no room for error. As a society we have gained very high expectations of money, it is not just a tool for trade anymore, it ultimately symbolizes our feelings of security and happiness. Because of the massive, global destruction of progress, (economic) security and happiness, we as victims must find and punish those responsible accordingly. It is our responsibility to prevent this kind of econimic terror from ever happening again in the future and and it can only be achieved by applying severe measures. A capital crime deserves a capital punishment.
