War can be fatal, but don’t tell the People

Joshua Bernard was already a veteran of Iraq yet his luck ran out in Afghanistan on August 14th of this year. The photo of the dying Marine taken by AP’s Julia Jacobson has caused the necessary controversy. Defence secretary Gates has strongly objected to the publishing of the photo however it did finally manage to see the light of day.
Although many stand screaming in favour of our fragile first amendment others take a more conservative stand. It looks like the debate on the publishing of dead soldiers is turning in favour of the former as barely any dead soldiers have made a media appearence under the reign of our last cowboy president.
Every fighting soldier deserves due respect but in order to prevent future casualties people need to be informed. The image presented to the public has offen been one of a “clean” war. This is both hypocritical and patronizing.

Defence of the Realm has a different yet very inforamtive view on the issue.

Michael Moore zoekt Klokkenluiders

In Nederland kunnen we er ook wel een paar gebruiken

Voor zijn nieuw stukje propaganda is Michael Moore op zoek naar spijtoptanten en klokkenluiders. Mensen die op Wall Street of elders in de financiële sector hebben gewerkt kunnen alles opbiechten bij Vader Moore. Over compensatie is wordt niets gezegd maar reken maar dat het een populair filmpje zal worden. Niemand kan de ziel van de gewone man (ver)roeren zoals Michael Moore dat kan.

Nu nine eleven nog maar een vaag CNN moment is geworden in het collectief geheugen van de westerse mens is de tijd rijp voor uitbuiting van het volgend collectieve drama. Nu staat deze filmmaker niet bekend om zijn nuance maar hoe anders kan men tegenwicht bieden aan de commerciële propaganda van het grote geld?

Zijn komende film zou gratis te downloaden zijn wat dan weer zeer toepasselijk is in tijden zonder geld. Zonder twijfel zal het een interessant en vooral entertaining stukje werk worden. Of de waarheid boven tafel komt doet er eigenlijk niet toe want Moore is vooral een anti establishment figuur. Over waarheid en establishment gesproken, heeft iemand nog interessante informatie of de beslissing van het kabinet over Irak?
